You can rely on the German label Northern Silence Productions to unearth the more obscure and more independent bands from somewhere. Haive are the solo project of Varjosielu; a musician already reviewed in those pages through its work with Solgrav. I guess the style could come under the black metal label but that wouldn’t tell the full story. Differing greatly from the majority of Scandinavian’s black metal hordes, Haive offer inner violence and melodic pagan themes above all else. Haive utilise a similar deep and depressive background to early Wyrd (perhaps their common presence on the split released by Northern Silence some months ago influences this feeling) and other bands of that ilk. They also have hints towards more traditional Finnish music (I guess) incorporating odd and melancholic surroundings. The end result is an above average inspiring epic / folk black metal album that will hypnotise a large array of listeners. Another gem from the land of the Thousand Lakes.
