I like getting stuff from this Swiss act because it is guaranteed to be at least very well done. Ever Since are for my opinion a kind of institution in the Swiss underground scene, of course I’d be laying if I said that I like everything this band have done in the past (to be honest I still regret the sound of the excellent «Fight The Elements») but I have the utmost respect for a band that has always try to deliver something innovative or at least different from what you have the use to listen to. Due to some difficulties, ever Since’s new piece of work has taken quite a while to release and a fair turnover of band members hasn’t really helped their cause. «Between Heaven and Hell» is eventually quite different from what Ever Since offered us on their previous records. However I still recognise that it is very good. Those eleven well structured songs that are incredibly catchy (catchiness here comes from the way songs are constructed) probably fit in what I would call the far left wing of dark electro melodic death metal. Each track has an individual life (a kind of band’s trademark), its own duration in accordance with its own destiny. Pure, passionate, honest, very thoughtful and well written music. Haunting metal.
