Although the word ‘Thelema’ in the title of this album will bring Behemoth to mind at first sight, this German black metal horde is in league with the old school Scandinavian black metal scene. Thorngoth play agile, melodic yet fast paced black metal, hallmarked by mobile and harmonized guitar lines. Individual song-structures are predominantly fast and quite different from each others in both set-up and performance. At times, the general concept is greatly redolent of Dark Funeral first works («The Secrets of the Black Arts», «Vobiscum Satanas») but they are particular passages when the sound of «Thelema of Destruction» reminds Norwegian cult acts such as Satyricon or even Burzum. What we get here is thus a combination of different genres and influences with the needed tempo variation, the right fascinating dark atmosphere and an excellent song-writing ability (compensating the conventional approach of the whole concept). Another very good surprise from Northern Silence Productions.
