I had be lying if I said that I’ve been a keen follower of this Italian act from day one but I say the truth if I say that I like everything Necrodeath has recorded since their 1999 come back and their signature with Scarlet Records. This new release is pretty much what we’ve come to expect: nowadays thrash metal coupled with the needed old-school background. Necrodeath’s greatest asset has always been their ability to marry bestiality and fast paced thrash songs with a real sense of melody. This talent reached for my opinion its peak on the fabulous 2001 «Black As Pitch», probably their best album so far. «Draculea» is another top quality release from this Genova based band. Everything is in the right measure here, some excellent thrashing guitar schemes, another top performance from screamer Marcelo Santos and the whole band play with real conviction. Necrodeath are now an institution in the European thrash metal scene, they stay true to what thrash black metal is all about: just pure brutality. Just listen to their version of Venom’s classic «Countess Bathory» and you shall be convinced: more venomous than the English trio himself. Utmost respect for band that has taken the roots of thrash metal and twisted them into a modern and personal version….I’m just waiting for their future album.
