26/10: Komagatoke (Japon): une faible activité phréatique a débuté après un repos de 2 ans et demi (mars 1996). Un panache de cendres s'est élevé jusqu'à environ 1.200 mètres au-dessus du cratère. L'activité éruptive a ensuite diminué au cours du temps. Aucune victime n'a été enregistrée et il n'y a pas eu d'évacuation. Les volcanologues ont observé l'activité à partir d'un hélicoptère. Ils ont commenté que l'éruption était localisée dans le cratère apparu lors de l'éruption de 1929. C'est aussi le cratère qui a fait éruption en mars 1996. La cendre couvre une zone autour du cratère et largement le secteur est du cratère. Les volcanologues affirment que l'intensité de l'éruption est plus faible que celle de Mars 1996. Des secousses d'origine volcanique ("tremors") ont accompagné l'éruption durant 6 minutes. Cinq tremblements de terre volcaniques ont été enregistrés pendant 12 heures après le début de l'éruption. Information par J. Miyamura, Sapporo District, Japan Meteorological Agency.

10/26: Komagatoke (Japon): renewal of weak phreatic activity since the eruption of March 1996. Issued ash up to about 1.200 m above the crater rim. The eruptive activity declined with time. There has been no report of injuries or damage caused by the eruption, and no evacuation order was issued. Volcanologists surveyed the activity from a helicopter in that afternoon. They reported that the site of eruption is the crater that opened in the 1929 eruption and is the same crater for the March 1996 eruption. Ash covers an area around the crater and widely the eastern area of the crater. They said that the scale of this eruption was smaller than that of the March 1996 eruption. Volcanic tremor for six minutes was associated with this eruption. Five volcanic earthquakes were recorded in 12 hours following the eruption. Information by J.
