The new law of Minister Pinxten underlines two major axis in the assigment of assents concerning the detention of animals in zoos : the educational aspect on one side and the necessity to adapt conditions of accommodation to the animal’s needs on the other side. The detention’s conditions should strictly respect the physiological and ethological needs of the concerned species. None of these criteria seem to be respected in the dolphinariums. The activity of Bruges’dolphinarium looks more like a circus than anything else. Where is the educational vocation ? Concerning the captivity’s conditions, lots of studies show how much dolphins are unable to adapt to detention. Illness and deathrate are generally quite high.

We demand the full application of the law. Dolphinariums should be forbidden in Belgium. Some alternative methods should be proposed so the encounters could happen in the elementary respect for life between men and species that can not adapt themselves to captivity. Among these : dolphins.
