Color music has fascinated me for a long time. The first confirmation I have found in playing music of Claude DEBUSSY and also in search of Alexander SCRIABIN to link timbres (scales) to frequencies of light.
Hans COUSTO (1978) launched in his vision the "cosmic octave", linking tones to the movements (waves ) of sun, moon, Saturn and other planets in the univers. Read the Midi-Planetarium item (previous P-ART JOURNAL #31) for more information about the cosmic octave.
The first publication about pitch / color synthese by Fritz DOBRETZBERGER & Johannes PAUL (Farbmusik. Berlin, Simon + Leutner Verlag, 1993, 147 pp.) delivers a palet of 12 colors related to the 12 keys of the chromatic scale.
The frequence of an "a" (=la) 440 Hertz, 40 time redoubled (= octaved) delivers the frequence of 483,79 billion Hertz corresponding to the lighting color " yellow orange"(canary yellow); "ais" to "yellow", "h" (=si B) to "yellow green ", etc.
