SHORT INFO

META (1980)

 mp3file
Meta (22 ') is made with an electronic organ and with a piece of cloth as percussion instrument. The real meaning of all this can probably only be experienced beyond (meta) the music itself. Look at my ALBUM "Meta" (< click) in the P-ART Gallery. Listen to an audio extract (37 seconds).

INSANE HOLLOW (1984)

mp3 file
In my intuitive composition The Insane Hollow, the insane sound reverberates on the wooden floor. The sound sources are difficult to recognize, even if the indigenous wooden flute pops up for one moment. Materials loose their conventional function in order to create a musical reality where the composer is an active chief witness of what is recorded by the mike.

MUSICAL SARCOPHAGUS (1985)

mp3file
On the bottom of my art box Anthology you find the musical sarcophagus of P-ART. This sarcophagus becomes an instrument for making your own music. Listen to audio part (20'') : it's the musical remnant of this sarcophagus. The listener-performer can record his own version on the other side of the audiocassette, using the following musical ingredients of the sarcophagus: transparent glass plate, two well sounding U-hooks, cassette on top of the sarcophagus and two small pillars of primeval words. I recommand to click on The Insane Hollow of P-ART Composing: go to Chapter 7.

MUSIC IN SIGN (1985)

 mp3 file
Music in Sign is a painted score for oboe, five violoncellos and three spectra of glass formations. It was very difficult to engage classical players. The performance has been prepared in 1987 but couldn't be finished because the classical trained performers unhooked finally on the open interpretation of golden color (timbre) and unprescribed pitches or duration of notes. Listen to a short audio extract of the tryout. For more information: Look at Chapter 9 of The Insane Hollow of P-ART Composing 2 (<click).

RITUAL MUSIC (1986)

  mp3file
This audio extract (42 '') belongs to "The Ritual Piano Suite". The royal version of the" Ritual Dance" invite the ritual dancer to follow the prescribed dance patterns. The Ritual Dance can also be performed in the intimacy of the own home, without public and without the material surroundings that have been described in the Installation.

PRIMAVOX (1989)

 mp3file
With PIECE for synthetic cassette deck I had already broken the classic barriers of sound convention using my cassette deck as an real instrument. Read about it in chapter 13 of The Insane Hollow of P-ART Composing 3 (< click). You can listen to a short audio extract of PRIMAVOX. The primeval sound has to be enhanced by a good sound effects processor: I prefer the KAOSS PAD.`

SPINET (2006)

 mp3file
In 2005, Walter MAENE (Belgium) finished a new white spinet. (click here)Words fail me to describe the fascinating timbre of the spinet. This artisanal keyboard is small but it produces greath sound. Rich overtones inspire me everyday to improvise continuously much more than any piano or digital keyboard can evoke. This spinet sounds transparantly and softly, just like the historical instrument (harpsichord, virginal, lute), and also just like ethnical string instruments especially the 'oud' from the Middle East area (Iran). The dynamic limits of my spinet compensated by the wide range of quality overtones are the best condition for my musical creativity. Click and listen to an mp3-excerpt of my music for spinet.

 PREPARED SPINET (2006)

 mp3file
About sixty years ago, John Cage introduced the prepared (acoustic) piano. Now, I play the prepared spinet, capturing and transmitting the acoustic sound through the sound effects processor KAOSSPAD (Korg). The result is an organic fusion of acoustic and electronic timbres. The mix-patch is a gamelan-like sound with a digital vs acoustic dialogue in the attack and sustain of the sound bathed in a natural resonating environment. Click and listen to a mp3-excerpt of a P-ART prepared spinet composition 2006.(© P-ART)

Dancing Queen for Piano (2004-2007)

 mp3file

Playing P-ART pianopieces like DANCING QUEEN does not depend on the pianistic velocity and bravery (aka Fingerfertigkeit) but involves the flow to create.
My scores provoke a personalized 'size' of pianoplay. Don't eat notes but stay open-minded for mostly unedited interactions of timbre, overtones and chords. Click on the mp3file.

FINALLY

Piano Cyclus First Mouvement (2007)

 mp3file

The release of the Midjay harddiskrecording (since 2004), the renovation of my pianogrand Rönisch in 2006 and especially in 2007 the release of the extremely satisfying piano recording system Kawai PR-1 with easy to use CD-RW recordings (look at the instrumental pages chapter 5), that all bring me back to town: a boost of musical creativity, and saving instant pianocompositions on CD, while keeping all dynamic soundreflection and overtones in process. Listen to a recent file: the first mouvement of the PianoCyclus "Finally".

These pieces are excerpts from the original music. Look at P-ART SCULPTURING OF SOUNDS (<click) for more information about making sounds on my digital wave synthesizer ESQ1 (P-ART SOUNDSET for ESQ1). To understand microtonal scales, click P-ART JOURNAL #26.

Click on the desired MP3-file and you activate the soundplay. It depends on your computer setup, if and how you can listen to the selected MP3- extracts of P-ART pieces. I recommand to install Quicktime 4 (Mac/Windows95/98//NT operating system - freewar, download from Apple): Quicktime supports all music formats (incl. MOV, MP3, SMF, DV etc.). You can also use WinAmp (shareware) for Windows 95,98,NT or SoundAmp (shareware) for MAC. (see: http:// www.mpeg3.org)

OBSESSION

 MP3file <c
The patch is the music. Playing one synthesizer patch 'OBSES, patch #B38 of P-ART SOUNDSET (<click), Pygmies dance on repetitive percussive music while skiving flutes. Hold chord notes and follow the obsessive sound. Short audio extract.

 ELISE

 MP3file
First notes of Für Elise with a new tonal look in a 9-tone scale, integrated in the 9-T EP sound patch (=Electronic piano sound).

 GLSTA

 MP3file
Microtonal sensitivity of the keys in the sound patch "GLASS SOUND": The more I press the key, the lower the pitch. I only played C-C (in LH) and B-C notes (in RH) on a sensitive way. Listen to an excerpt of the GLSTA-play. If your prefer more information about microtonal music, click P-ART JOURNAL #26.

  NIGHTY

MP3file
Microtonal sensitive pressure while playing the keys. Instrumental sound color and microtonal feature are integrated in one single synth patch. The more I press the key, the higher the tone. In this short audio extract, I only used: Ab-Eb (in LH) and C-Eb-Ab (in RH). Read also chapter 13 (Digital versus Acoustic sounds) in The Insane Hollow of P-ART Composing 3 (< click).
