Biography

Newstar

Weaver, seamstress, gatherer

Relatives: daughter of Woodlock and Rainsong (deceased), older sister to Wing (deceased) and Mender, mother of Kimo, lifemate to unknown Sun-Villager, granddaughter of Rain the healer and niece to Pike.

Age: about 500 years, mortal

Newstar was born a Wolfrider, under Cutter's reign, almost immediately after Madcoil's attack. She was Rainsong and Woodlock's first child. About five years later, her parents Recognized again and a second child was born, a son named Wing.

Shorly thereafter, the human tribe nearby the Holt set the forest on fire. The Wolfriders had to flee from the fire into the troll's tunnels. After a journey through the desert they ended up in Sorrow's End.

After seven years of all living as Sun-Villagers, the Wolfriders took off to find Cutter. Newstar, her family and Dart stayed in Sorrow's End. Shortly after that, Rainsong gave birth to a third child, another son named Mender. Mender had inherited his grandfather's gift; he was a healer.

Three years later there was trouble at Blue Mountain. Dart, Newstar and the Jack-Wolfriders came to the rescue. After the rescue, Newstar and the others stayed a few days in the Forbidden Grove, where she had a small affair with Skywise. The Palace arrived, and they all went back to Sorrow's End. The Wolfriders didn't stay long and took off again to the New Land. Dewshine and Scouter stayed in Sorrow's End!

Almost immediately after the palace disappeared into the future, Newstar must have Recognized a Sun-Villager. She must have been about 16 years old then, because two years later she gave birth to her son Kimo. She was then 18 years old. It's a real shame that even her lifemate's name is unknown!
Newstar was a very young mother; her brothers were only 13 and 5 years old when Kimo was born. She probably received a lot of help from her family.

About 200 years later, Zey and the Go-Backs stormed Sorrow's End to get the Little Palace, but they failed. The Sun-Villagers were helped by Kahvi and Tyldak, who were released from wrapstuff by Skywise's daughter Yun. The Go-Backs killed Dart's soul-brother Shushen, releasing the kill-hunger of the Wolfriders. For her own safety, Newstar's lifemate and son tied Newstar up and left her in an underground chamber to prevent her from killing or being killed. She begged Kahvi to release her, but Kahvi was too busy stealing the Little Palace, an act she regretted when she saw what the Go-Backs had done. Kahvi left the Little Palace with the Sun-Villagers, but the War for the Little Palace had badly damaged both tribes. Newstar's lifemate was killed and her son mortally wounded. Kimo went into wrapstuff because Mender was unable to heal him. Newstar was very sympathetic to Dart's anguish at the blood-letting.

After 300 years, all the Wolfriders, including Newstar, went into wrapstuff, to await the reappearance of the Palace.

Six years after the Palace reappeared, Leetah went to the Sun-Village to help Mender heal the wounded, including Kimo.

Shortly thereafter, humans started to invade the Sun-Village, and Ahdri, Savah's handmaiden, was shot. (She was found years later in wrapstuff by Clearbrook and Treestump in the old troll caves under the original Holt.)
Newstar became then Savah's handmaiden. The Sun Folk hid underground, abandoning Sorrow's End to the humans. While the Sun Folk were hiding underground, Cutter and his tribe came after them with the Palace. All together again, they set off to the original Holt that had burnt down ages before, planting Redlance's seed from the original Father Tree, to grow a new one.

Now Newstar is living with Cutter and the Wolfriders again, staying close to Shenshen.

Splitting her time at first with the Sun Folk in the Palace and the Wolfriders in the forest, she apparantly has chosen to be with her former tribemates now, especially Skywise.

Her son, Kimo, went into learning with Timmain, to find himself a self-shaper, like Timmain herself.
He got a hold on his magic powers when he heard about Shuna being in danger, then, in the shape of a wolf he rescued Shuna from a snowstorm
Later on, Kimo went on a quest with Dart and Shuna, Cutter and Leetah's adopted human-daughter, trying to unite humans and elves. Not all thought of this as a good idea.
But encouraged by his mother Newstar who spoke the wise words:"Please, Moonshade... after all we've been through, there's no going back to the old ways of hating and hidding! Elves and humans must learn to get along, once and for all!" No one could dispute her wise words.
